Some people have too much time on their hands.
Tuesday, February 21, 2012And considerably more willpower than me. I would never have made it past the AT-AT's feet.
Who's having pancakes for tea then? I use the pancake batter mix from my trusty old Be-Ro recipe book. My mum has an ancient copy, all floury and falling to pieces. Mine is new (only £2.50!), but it's degenerating at an alarming pace. Probably due to my habit of dropping it into bowls of cake mix and spattering it with bits of Yorkshire pudding. I'm not the most graceful of cooks.
One Pancake Day, Fin and I made an entire pancake-based meal. The pudding was delicious: sliced banana wrapped up in pancakes and drizzled with golden syrup, baked in the oven and served with ice cream. YUM. The main course, however, was less successful. Apparently Peking Duck doesn't really work with chicken. Or satay sauce. Or thick, rubbery pancakes. Blergh.
I can't help thinking that the true meaning of Shrove Tuesday has gone worryingly awry when I actually have to go out to the shops and buy pancake ingredients. It's not really the point, is it? I should probably be scraping together a meal from the random contents of my cupboards, using up all the unhealthy things we're meant to be forsaking for the next six weeks.
I wonder if I could create a scale replica of the Millenium Falcon out of supernoodles and cheese?

I always think the pancake frenzy before shrove tuesday is really funny - shops sell out of sugar, eggs and those little yellow lemon bottles - and I think yep, that's definitely not the point of lent! That said, I haven't been to Morrison's yet and of course it will be pancakes for tea. Oh well... SO excited for pancakes for tea, yum.
ReplyDeleteWait! Is today pancake day? I've got to celebrate.
ReplyDeleteThat At-At is awesome we should make one
ReplyDeleteI would not make it through all of that. And I always have pnacake ingredients in and am looking forward to birthday pancakes with banana curd. Oh and for savoury pankcakes? I go for cheese, mushroom and bacon but instead I am eating lots of meat before tomorrow and the fasting and abstinence. My birthday was once on Ash Wednesday and I was not allowed sweets, the other kids at my party had less strict parents and were allowed sweets and pop. I am still bitter 17 years on. Sorry for sharing that with you.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday!! Mmmm, cheese bacon and mushroom sounds delicious, must try.
DeleteDefinitely going for the big pancake fest tonight - starting with savoury - mozarella and maybe bacon - then followed by lemon and sugar, yum yum. I have a pristine copy of the Be-ro book here, if you would like a new one??? Hope you all enjoy xx
ReplyDeleteThanks for the offer Mum, but it would just end up a mess within a couple of months anyway!
DeleteJust to let you know I nominated you for a versatile blogger award - you can see the blurb on my blog post today. Thanks for keeping me amused on my commute!
