Sweet tooth

“As a visitor, when you step on to the Tunnock’s production line, the smells alone make you smile – baked biscuits, warm chocolate, toasted coconut – and the sight of row upon row of white mallow Tea Cakes entering the chocolate enrobing machine brings on a sort of vertigo as you resist the urge to rush forward and dive in.’”

Everything about this Tunnock's article, from the extremely cool graphic layout to photo captions like "Mallow heaven: Tea Cakes after their quiffs have been removed and before their chocolate bath," is completely charming. The only problem is that all I can think about now is biscuits.

The big question is: Tea Cake or Caramel Wafer?

Cards by Gillian Kyle. If one designer of confectionary-based products isn't enough for you, Nikki McWilliams does a very nice selection of biscuits too. Nom.

  1. Caramel wafer! I used to have them shipped out when I lived in Canada as I love them so much. By the way, if you're feeling crafty, there was a very good pattern in Cross Stitcher last month to stitch a Tea Cake bag.

  2. Thank you for making me go and make dinner. Which is embarassingly uncool - cheese toastie and a Twix.

  3. It may well be an urban myth, but I once read that you can be added to a waiting list to do a tour of the tunnocks factory. Must look into it!

  5. No no no... Got to be a log!!!! So funny... Just arrived back in Scotland last night and read this article from the newspaper magazine at my parents this morning. Always find it funny that Tunnocks is so popular in Kuwait...where I live . I love all the 'retro' designs.

  7. My hubby's aunt lives in Uddingston and knows Mr Tunnock (he gives her order of morning rolls for free every week) and when he was a boy the hubby also got a tour of the factory AND got to make some caramel wafers... he was at the crucial stage of the production line... adding the top layer of wafer!

  9. The design of that piece is really great. And pretty much a legit excuse to go and eat a ton of caramel wafers. Right? I actually have a pillow that is designed to look like a caramel wafer wrapper and it's basically the best thing in my house.

  11. that article is cool - i think my favourite picture though is of Mr Tunnock measuring the biscuit base on a template in his notebook!
I'm definitely a wafer girl - my mum used to buy them when i was little - soooo good. I'm going to have to buy a packet after work.

  12. I've just started blogging and entirely agree with you about the excitement of comments - they delight me! And followers, well I nearly burst.
Regarding tunnocks tea cakes, keep them in the fridge, press the top to crack the chocolate before you unwrap them, peel the chocolate off, then eat the biscuit and save the marshmallow till last...
