Style Me May: Week One

Tuesday, May 08, 2012

Day 1: Makes me want to twirl. The infamous yellow skirt, making me want to twirl (and get a non-crap camera phone).

Day 2: Bright happy colour. Honeymoon scarf! Never fails to perk me up. Even when I miss my bus and forget my purse ON THE SAME DAY. Yeah, that happened.

Day 3: Jazz up your hands. I was going to make jazz hands (*jazz hands*) but I realised I would need one hand to take the picture, and one lonely jazz hand would look pretty sad. So instead I just draped my hand across my scarf in a totally natural and not-at-all awkward way.

Day 4: Always gets complimented. Seriously, this dress NEVER FAILS. I don't even like it that much, but it was admired a record five times that day. Eat your heart out, Elle Woods. (Oh and yes, in case you were wondering, I took that in the staff toilet in my office. I suspect a background of grotty floor tiles may be a regular occurrence this month. I like to keep it classy.)

Day 5: Put a scarf on it. If you liked it then you should have put a scarf on i- oh, wait. I did. But did I actually take that bag out and about, or did I just stuff it with a pillow and prop it on top of some nice hampers to make it *look* like I did? I guess you'll never know...

Day 6: Layer jewellery. What time is it? Why, it's Arm Party time! Let's pretend that the definition of "layer" is "put next to each other in a random combination", okay?

Day 7: A world traveller. This is my standard long-distance travelling attire. Coincidentally, this is also my standard slobbing-on-the-couch attire. Win-win.

WEEK ONE VERDICT: Must try harder. And find the charger for my damn camera before I die from over-exposure to bad camera phone pictures.

So, who's playing along at home? How's it going?

  1. Strangely, this series is just making me want to buy things in order to fit into the daily requirements. Not really the best way to approach. Have not yet bought anything but have favourited a scarf, a twirly skirt and a ring on Etsy. Hmm.

(It's Emma from Another Ring Coming, by the way!)

    1. I know, I'm reading your new blog! Loving all the gorgeous florals.

My plan is not to buy anything new for the challenge and just rework things I already own, but we'll see how that goes - it's only Day 8, after all...

  2. I'm half heartedly trying and was actually given a gorgeous vintage 60s scarf for my birthday on day 5. But then I was in London, didn't take any photos, didn't bring any 'layerable' jewellery and the only world traveller look I pulled off yesterday were my huge puffy eyes after a delayed flight home. Not quite the look. My verdict is also: Must try harder.

  3. V amusing write-up Kirsty, I like the scarf on bag thing! My fav pic is number 3, gorgeous colours.

  4. I'm being very half-hearted!!

I've not bothered at the weekend because I'm busy doing weekendy things, some of which require wellies and hoodies and so aren't easily styleable!

I'm trying to keep to it during the week - although I'm a bit scared of lipstick so I'm not sure how today will go!

  5. I got yesterday okay but other days, not so much. No idea what to do with tomorrow. Am doing okay with lipstick today...small steps.

  6. How exciting, I wish I could play, but am sadly lacking in the clothes department. Where did you get the pink dress! I love it! Very Joan Holloway:-) (Gill sorry I don't have any of the accounts I require so anonymous will have to do!)

    1. Thanks! It's from Hobbs, got it in last year's January sales.

For future reference, if you choose "Name/URL", I think you can just enter your name without a URL. Unless of course you prefer to retain the air of mystery and intrigue that comes from being Anonymous...

    2. Or you could enter any URL you like, say a link to your Pinterest account.

  7. That IS the definition of layering - no mystique there I think!

    Love the turquoise ring especially.

  8. this looks so fun - I think you're kicking ass at it! And I've totally copied your slobbing on the couch outfit today, at work, with Vans sneakers. Casual Tuesday, eh?

    1. I was about to say "every day is Casual Tuesday", then realised that made no sense whatsoever. But you should know I am strongly in favour of Casual Tuesday, and if I could get away with it I so would.

  9. I LOVE the always gets complimented dress... and as for the bad phone photos... I'm doing mine on an actual camera and yours are coming up better. I don't know what I should take away from that, really. x
