Exciting things.

Currently getting me excited:

1. Going wedding dress shopping with Blonde Bridesmaid tomorrow. At last! My insane pinning spree will finally be replaced by three-dimensional objects!

2. Giving this old blog a facelift someday soon. The excessively literal header photo is starting to get a little tired (boats mooring, safely? Puh-leaze). A fancy makeover is not on the cards, so it'll be a DIY job, but I'm having fun looking for ideas. I even bought a book. Check me out. (By the way, has anyone got any strong feelings on moving to Wordpress versus staying on Blogger? Will I regret asking this?)

3. A not-so-secret project that I'm cooking up with Lauren McGlynn. It was meant to distract me from my insane pinning spree (see 1 above) but instead it's just sent me down a whole new rabbit hole. Oh well.

4. Spring. (If only it would HURRY UP.)

That's right folks, it's never-ending excitement over here. I'd like to see you try and beat that exciting lineup! If you think your weekend plans are more exciting, well I don't want to hear about them!

Just kidding, I totally do. Whatcha doin?

  1. Oooh what's the project?? I have to bake a cake for hubby's 30th on Monday and sleep lots. Nowhere near as exciting as your weekend

  2. Wedding dress shopping should be super exciting. I cannot wait to hear about that and look forward to the new layout though have no advice on the blogger vs wordpress thing, or on updating as I don't like mine much at the moment and was actually trying to make it look cleaner and brighter like, um, your blog.

  3. Wedding dress shopping for your not-hypothetical-now wedding is pretty exciting!

Doing a blog redesign is a good way to clear the cobwebs. Also, we change so much as people that I think an online image change now and then is pretty natural. I don't have strong views, I stayed on blogger as blogging is just for fun for me and a Wordpress move seemed like it would take time I could spend reading other blogs!

I am excited for the results of your project with Lauren. THere is no way it can be anything but ace!

  5. ooh I like messing about with blog redesign. I've a funny feeling wordpress is probably better but I'm quite happy with blogger for my work ones. You might like the buttermilk font, I've used it for stuff and it looks fab.

    1. Ooh, I do like it! I also love having friends who give me FONT RECOMMENDATIONS. This is why blogging is the best.

  6. Very exciting, I agree. I loved wedding dress with my friend, so I'm sure you're going to have fun. I'm seeing my bride friend this weekend too - bridal make-up trial, manicures and a birthday (hers not mine) glass of champagne. Really looking forward to it.

Am interested in your re-design... Will be watching this space.

  7. Have a marvellous time dress shopping! I'm prodding Sam with a stick to do mine for me, he promised he'd do it before new job started but there's still only a tantalisingly awesome header to show. Sigh! I shall have to live vicariously through yours (or, heaven forbid, do it myself....)

    Happy weekend!

  8. So exciting, wedding dress hunting.
And wordpres... seems fancier but also harder to use, coming from a non-techy person that has no idea of programming.
I guess you have to go more into it, and then, you can do more customized stuff. But what I like about blogger it's that it is so easy and ready ....

  9. Yes, hurry up Spring! We had a tantalising few days of it followed by a week of fog..
I'm in the middle of blog redesigning too- good fun but does suck up a bit of time! I've found Wordpress a lot easier to use so I'd say Do It! If you fancy getting in to a bit more font geekery 'Just My Type' is a fun book!
Enjoy the dress shopping - perfect for a rainy weekend. Don't forget the champagne!

  10. OOH - have fun dress shopping. I unexpectedly got to go with my friend last weekend after her deadbeat bridesmaids abandoned her and was SOO excited - what designers does Blonde Bridesmaid (now bride!) love?

While I don't want to compete with your exciting weekend, we *are* moving into our new flat which we just completed on this morning... so I'm pretty excited about that! Wish us luck with not breaking our belongings and the dog not freaking out and everything being happy and smooth-sailing (speaking of boat metaphors)... if you ever need a place to stay that comes with an air mattress and a smelly hound-shaped hot water bottle to keep you from missing Smidgen too much, you're more than welcome!

  11. I recently helped a friend with some graphics for her Wordpress blog, and we found that Wordpress charges for more customization options (like a header). I don't know anything about which is better, but it would be worth looking into Costs and options.

    1. There's a difference between Wordpress (hosting your own blog) and wordpress.com (which is like blogger).

  12. spending the weekend on placement in the Neonatal unit. so far this particular placement has involved cuddling little tiny babies, so i'm due some hard work. hopefully going to get to see my first birth too. exciting stuff for me, probably not so exciting if you don't like that kind of thing...

looking forward to seeing the redesign. shall be marvellous i'm sure!

    1. Well, given that I was a sobbing wreck by the end of One Born Every Minute the other day, I think we can safely say this qualifies as very, very exciting!

  14. Wordpress is expensive. If you want to have a nice looking blog for free, stay with Blogger. They have fixed many of the issues (comment conversations, HELLO!), and Wordpress basically makes your life miserable unless you pay to self-host, and then you have to be techy enough to self-host, and you have to pay for stupid stuff, like changing fonts (or be really tech savvy) and you have to pay to be able to change the beyond really boring ones. I thought switching to Wordpress would be so great, and seriously the only nice thing about it is that I can reply to comments via e-mail, whereas with Blogger I have to come to the blog website. So that's the only advantage, I think, unless you are willing to pour money into your blog.

  15. Very excited to hear about the new project!

I recently helped a friend set up a self-hosted Wordpress blog so while I don't proclaim any level of expertise; I can give you some basic info on the differences with Blogger and the pros and cons of each. Send me an email if you like.

  16. I've been thinking about getting an early start to packing. Not actually doing it mind you, but thinking about it.

I have also been obsessively researching greyhounds, rescue greyhounds and transitioning a rescue greyhound. Of course I still need to find an apartment that allows one, but I've only been looking at places that allow dogs.

  17. I haven't commented on your blog since summer I think (!) so it's high time for me to finally stop blurking and say something. Here goes:

I really like your blog inspiration board on pinterest!

If you're looking for some pretty free fonts, check out
Lost Type , for textures Lost and Taken and if you're using Photoshop there are tons of beautiful brushes out there which help you create a watercolour look. It's quite amazing how easy it is to do the design yourself, especially if someone's as creative as you:)

It's probably not the most witty comment I could wish for but hey, at least I tried.

    1. Don't worry, there are no rules on comments having to be witty/wise/deeply profound - all comments equally welcome here :) Especially ones with useful tips on where to snag free fonts!

  18. I moved to blogger and regretted it so much I moved back to wordpress. Nothing ever WORKS on blogger. When everything is working, though, it's much the same.

  19. Wordpress looks scary to me, I tried it once and couldn't make sense of any of it.

If you stay with Blogger then this is the best site I ahve found with tutorials and tricks www.southernspeakers.net

There's some really useful stuff on there.

Looking forward to seeing your new design x
