One week to go.

*DISCLAIMER: THIS IS NOT ACTUALLY SMIDGEN. OR ME*

We've bought the books. We've bought the bed. We've bought the toys, the bowls, the waterproof coat with tartan lining (because apparently greyhounds feel the cold and apparently I am the kind of person who coordinates her outfit with her dog's). We've taken her for walks, smuggled her cubes of cheese and generally made a fuss of her in the hope that she won't be too utterly traumatised when she realises she will have to hang out with us all the time. FOREVER.

This time next week, there will be a furry bundle of bones snoozing on our couch, with nobody but us to look after her, and I'm kind of shitting myself. Over a dog. She's not even a puppy. Seriously, you baby people, I am in awe. How does one ever feel prepared? Do you read a million books on every tiny aspect? Do you cross your fingers and hope for the best? Do you simply believe it's never actually going to happen

I'd be lying if I said I didn't see the dog as a bit of a practice run. Here's hoping we don't fuck it up too badly.

{You really don't see enough greyhound-themed fashion shoots, in my opinion. Tanya Dziahileva shot by Jean-Daniel Lorieux and styled by Marie-José Susskind-Jalou for L'Officiel Paris, October 2011, via mode.newslicious.net}

  1. It wil be wonderful. Promise. When we first got our cats it was just such a joy to learn their mannerisms and personality, and to have another living thing in the house all day (I'm a scaredy cat-no pun intended) enjoy it all, I'm very jealous! X

  2. Eeeeeek. So exciting. I have dreams that one day we will have a herd of Newfoundlands on our giant estate of course.

    Cats will have to suffice until then or maybe perhaps a Bassett Hound called Digby.

    Good luck! You will be fine and dandy.

  4. Jealous! Sure it'll be fine. I love the way you've kind of been dating your dog before asking her to move in :)

  8. ahhh new puppy time! yeah you will be fine. we tried reading up on things in advance, about dog training and such, but a lot of it will depend on the dog's personality, you just go with the flow. in our house, the constant "did you know we got married?" questions turned into "did you know we got a DOG??" it's startling for a while. but so amazing. so happy for you guys!

  9. oh that's so exciting!! It will be great. I promise. I think that a dog multiplies the love by about a trillion. It's amazing how they do that.

  10. greyhound greyhound greyhound!!! Please take her to the park and watch her run. I love watching my aunt's Italian greyhound, when I get the chance. Skinny is 12 years old, blind in 1 eye, and going blind in the other; but you wouldn't even know it when she gets to the ranch and tears across the polo field.

  12. Exciting!!!! We did all the same prepping for our pup &, in the end, he "trained" us on everything we needed to know. Smidgen is gonna love you!

  14. Aw, I think you just might be the best prepared greyhound parents ever! They are wonderful dogs, &, after the initial shock to the system of living in a home as opposed to kennels wears off, make fantastically affectionate pets. It can be very hard to stop at one... & if you're anything like me it won't be very long before your whole world starts to revolve around them! Love the greyhound photoshoot - Of course, my pointy noses usually have the starring role in my own photoshoots ;-)
