Things my mother has taught me, Vol. 2

Wednesday, December 09, 2015

1. The importance of giving excellent presents.

2. That you should always try to finish what you've started, but sometimes it's okay to say fuck it, life's too short.

3. That love will wrap you up like a soft blanket and keep you warm, even when it's dark and cold and your baby won't sleep and everything is horrible and you just want your mum and she's not there.

4. The importance of giving excellent cuddles.

5. That ducks go quack, and cows go moo, and how to be gentle and why you probably shouldn't eat things you find on the ground in the park. I had no idea how many things she'd taught me, until I had to start teaching them to somebody else.

Thanks, Mum. Happy birthday. We think about you every day.

Oh my. So heartfelt, so incredibly emotional, and so true. It's always the little things, innit. And your posts about your mother always pretty much make me cry (though basically any post about anyone's mother makes me cry, I'm just sappy like that). But still, this was a special one.
My heart goes out to you today, and every day. I can't even begin to understand what you are feeling, but truly hope that squishy-cheeked baby of yours will help you through it.

  2. This is wonderful and sad and further evidence that I love to read whatever you decide to write about. Sending love xxx

Ps that first picture could be you and F!

  3. I think of you lots even in the absence of blog posts. Hope you're getting lots of warm cuddles on these cold dark days. X

  4. Happy birthday to your mum. And lots of love to you and bubba x

  5. Beautifully put. I'm parenting without my Dad and it's tough every day but especially on anniversaries. It's hard not to be joyful with my gorgeous daughter around but the sadness is always there too. I hope today is as kind as it can be to you and tomorrow is just a bit easier. X

  6. Sending you a big hug. Fucking hard isn't it. Miss you on here, keep going girl xxx

  7. Happy, happy birthday to your mum. And much love to you all too. x

  8. So much love Kirsty, I'm so glad you have such lovely memories of your Mum to share with your daughter. Along with all of the fab lessons of course. xxx

  9. Your mum looks so radiant in that photo. <3 Sending all my love.

  10. Thanks for all of the love, my friends. Extra hugs to those of you missing loved ones too <3

  11. This is such a wonderful post! Made me tear up a bit. Sending my love x x
