The trouble with Pinterest

How I think something's going to look.

Illustration of person in white top and green maxi skirt
How it actually looks.

The same applies to quirky present-wrapping techniques, hairstyles, and artful arrangements of festive twigs with which I keep accidentally poking myself in the face.

Both images via Pinterest, of course. Top: Source frustratingly difficult to find. Bottom: Illustration by the hugely talented, outrageously successful and one-year-younger-than-me Olimpia Zagnoli. There is no reason why her age is in any way relevant, except that it's my birthday in a few days. Make of that what you will.

  1. Haha yeah.... but I do find very good recipes and I love how there are always good photographs to illustrate them.

And hey it's gonna be your birthday soon :) I hope you are feeling happy and festive.

  3. Ha, I love it! So true, especially about the twigs that poke you in the face!

  4. Oh what I would not give to look like the first picture...

Very true - but when you pulled off that look for blook club I think you proved you don't look like the second picture.

  5. Happy almost birthday!, first of all.

Second of all. I feel the EXACT same way. Ridiculous. Nothing is ever as good as Pinterest makes it out to be.

  6. Ha ha ha ha... so true! So very unfairly true. Especially those blooming long skirts. See also fringes. And skinny jeans. And sequin skirts. (I'm not bitter about any of these things, no!) x

  7. Oh this is SO BLOODY TRUE of everything I Pin.

Got fun plans for your birthday?

  8. So so true. In my mind I look like the first picture. Slim, blond and confident and then I look at photos and reality truly hits me. Blergh.

  9. Hmmm. I just saw this as I decided to make a dress very similar to one I saw on Pinterest. Ah well. Throwing all caution to the wind!
